New Iowa casino quietly opens, here's a sneak peek inside

The casino's grand opening is scheduled for three days starting on Aug. 7.

Kenny Rogers will perform on Aug. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Greene Room Event Center as part of the casino's grand opening. Tickets are on sale on the Wild Rose website for $41.50.  The second show will be on Aug. 8 will be at 7:30 p.m.

The 18,000 square foot casino is located along Highway 30. The casino has 536 slot machines and 14 table games. It also brings 250 new jobs to the area.

"Friend called this morning and he said the casino's open. How did we not know that? So, here we are," said Jerilynn Denman of Jefferson.

Casino officials said that despite not spreading the word about the soft opening, they had 550 showed up.

"We had a couple jackpots won already," said Mike Couch, Wild Rose Casino general manager. "Small town friendly, big city wild."

"We had business over here so we thought we'd just stop and check it out. Paid off, buy my gas back home," said Keith Campbell of Boone.

Customers say they don't mind another casino in Iowa.

"I think it's necessary. If I want to gamble I've at least got to drive 60 miles and you know we're kind of out here in the rural area," said Amy Chapman of Bagley.

"We'll have some entertainment, another place to eat, another place to have cocktails," said Denman.

The casino will be open from 8 a.m. to midnight now through July 30 before the regular hours of 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. during the weekend and open 24 hours a day on weekends kick in.
